Tragically, on 15th November our dearly loved Damira
succumbed to Covid-19 in Bishkek.
Since 2002, Lifeline has worked with her to improve the outcomes of children with
cancer and other life-threatening conditions in the Kyrgyz Republic, and to arrange
treatment in Italy where treatment was not possible at home.
The Kyrgyz Republic has lost one of its finest doctors and we have lost a very dear
friend and partner. She was a devoted champion for Kyrgyz children and indeed adults.
In 2011, she was awarded the rank of Honoured Doctor of the Kyrgyz Republic by the
She deserves our greatest respect for her professional abilities and, most of all,
for her personal courage. She worked for decades with only minimal government support.
She fought so hard for her patients and overcame many pressures and obstacles. She
was greatly loved by her patients and their families.
We hope her example will prove an inspiration for future young Kyrgyz doctors. We
will continue to do all we can to help her patients and to honour her memory.
